According to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, computer and mathematical science jobs in Oklahoma are projected to grow by 13 percent from 2012 to 2022, which is great news for those who are looking to move to Oklahoma City and specialize in those fields.

A news article in The Oklahoman explained how local startup Tailwind is growing rapidly and hiring tech talent in Oklahoma City. Tailwind is a Pinterest analytics company and has an office in New York City and more recently, Seattle. Oklahoma City movers were happy to hear that employment opportunities for the tech-savvy are expected to continue to increase over the next 10 years, and Oklahoma City based companies like Tailwind are saying that it can be a battle trying to attract local workers to their company, as they are also competing with Silicon Valley companies that allow people to work remotely – another great piece of advice if you are moving to the OKC and are in need of a job.

Computer developers in Oklahoma City have also mentioned how important it is to get children interested in the tech world. Oklahoma City movers suggests that if you have children in middle school, high school, or entering college, that you look into enrolling them in computer science classes that are critical to the growing workforce.

If you are moving to Oklahoma City and are interested in learning computer coding, Tailwind has helped sponsor OK Coders, the state’s first software development boot camp. The program is 10 weeks long and is designed for all experience levels. After you complete the course, take a shot at applying to an OKC computer tech and software company

Electric cars are fascinating, and are definitely not a sign of the future anymore, as many major car manufacturers now have an electric option. However, after the battery life of an electric car runs out, what should manufacturers do with the expired batteries? Oklahoma City startup company Spiers New Technologies began a “Spartan warehouse” back in 2014.

Founder and President Dirk Spiers was about to receive a shipment of electric car batteries from General Motors Co. and needed a place to store them all, which is where the warehouse came to fruition.

Now, Oklahoma City movers are proud to say that Spiers New Technologies has been growing with employment opportunities and is serving companies such as GM and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. when they need to get rid of electric car batteries. Oklahoma City movers have also learned that the facility has contracts with a mobile charging station company and an aftermarket supplier of batteries for the Toyota Prius hybrid.

What exactly does Speirs New Technologies do with the electric car batteries? They test and rate the battery packs, then they decide if they should repair them or remanufacture them. If the batteries cannot be repaired and placed back into a vehicle, they can be re-purposed for industrial use.

If you are moving to Oklahoma City and Spiers New Technologies is in line with the field of work that you are looking for, Spiers is constantly investing in people and resources to “stay ahead of the curve,” as he puts it.

Oklahoma City movers want new residents to stay informed about the weather, since Oklahoma City weather can mean extreme heat, flooding, and even droughts. With weather patterns constantly changing, it may be difficult to figure out the proper ways to maintain a garden after you move to Oklahoma. All My Sons Moving & Storage is happy to share a new gardening tactic that is quickly becoming popular in the city – the Garden Anywhere Box.

The Garden Anywhere Box was made in Oklahoma and won the title of the “Most Unique Product” at the 2013 Oklahoma State Fair. Since then, the Garden Anywhere Box has become a huge hit among gardeners of all kinds and ages throughout the city and the state.

The Garden Anywhere Box is convenient because it uses less water to grow plants – and it actually self-waters! How does it work? Simply hook your garden hose up to the box and it will regulate how much water the hose lets in, shutting off the hose with a valve when water is not needed.

What makes the Garden Anywhere Box even greater? Since it waters itself you can leave your home and go on vacation, you never have to worry about your plants being watered and alive when you return. It is also portable, making moving to or from Oklahoma City even easier when traveling with plants and you won’t have to leave your garden behind.

To purchase a Garden Anywhere Box, you can visit their website or the Oklahoma State Fair.

The summer months are finally coming to a close and your children are getting ready to go back-to-school! Have they stayed active all summer? Are they mentally and physically prepared for the vigor of a new school year? If you are moving to Oklahoma City and have children who have not been staying active, they will be once the new school year begins. Oklahoma City movers suggest you get kids attention moving by keeping them moving!

Oklahoma City movers have heard that the city is implementing a style of education that challenges children to remain active in the classroom. Apparently, the program began due to studies that showed that children who are consistently active throughout the day have better attention spans.

The agenda is a nationwide program that has made its way to Oklahoma City and is called “Action Based Learning Labs,” brought to the state by Schools for Healthy Lifestyles. Schools for Healthy Lifestyles will be trying “Action Based Learning Labs” in seven schools in the metro area, including Willow Brook Elementary in Northeast Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City movers are skeptical as to whether the idea of teaching kids subjects like math, while simultaneously keeping them moving, will actually improve their attention span as Action Based Learning Labs states. However, the new technique shows that Oklahoma City is on top of new developments in the educational field, and will in turn make sure your children have the best education possible.

United States Senator, Ted Cruz of Texas, is in Oklahoma this week and he is calling on the state to be helpful when election time comes. The Texas Senator will be making pit stops in Oklahoma City and Tulsa for the closing of his southern tour, Ted Cruz ends tour in Oklahoma City, the city residents can’t stop buzzing about it.

Just this week, the Republican presidential candidate attended a lunch rally, during which he explained that “Oklahoma is going to be vital in this GOP race for President.”

Cruz will be hosting two more campaign events while he is in town this week, both on Thursday, August 13th, at 4 p.m. in Bartlesville and at 7 p.m. in Tulsa. The Bartlesville event will also feature United States Representative, Jim Bridenstine of Tulsa.

The Senator’s Oklahoma tour comes at the tail end of a long southern tour through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

If you are moving to Oklahoma City, all residents are encouraged to check out the rally events and show support for all presidential candidates who will be touring through the state. Since this past August, Jason Erikson has taught patients that are middle and high school students at Integris Mental Health Spencer in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City movers have learned that Erikson has been getting everyone’s attention at the center with his passion for his job, and it is clear why.

According to Erikson, “I really want to make my family proud by doing what I love. This is what I like to do”, and Oklahoma City families like what he’s doing too.

If you are moving to Oklahoma City and your child needs special learning assistance, Erikson teaches his classes slightly differently than how other professors typically do. His reasoning for incorporating assignments such as career-day into his class, is because he “want(s) to make them aware of the possibilities. Also, maybe they didn’t think they had a future. It gives them hope, imaging a life past this crisis that’s going on in their lives right now. I think it’s therapeutic, too.”

Having originally worked installing flooring, Erikson went back to school and got his English degree and teaching certification. When he graduated, he did not have a job and was not sure that he wanted to teach at all. However, after doing the flooring for the assistant principal for Oklahoma City Public Schools’ extended educational services, he went on an interview and has been teaching students within the criminal justice system and mental health facilities since then.

One mental health care worker, Alex Escarcega, shares that, “the way he’s doing his work and keeping the kids focused, I like it. I’ve had teachers who will print out the work and say ‘here you go.’ But him…being involved with the kids, moving around, (he does an) excellent job.” Erikson is the kind of teacher that families who are moving to Oklahoma City hope that their child receives and the city thanks him for such outstanding work and citizenship.
